Youth at Risk (YAR):
The Works of the Youth at Risk in the Province is through the Five Centres and the Child Friendly Guwahati.
1. Snehalaya Children Home for Boys, Dhirenpara
Snehalaya Children Home for Boys, established on January 1, 2001, is located in Dhirenpara, near the Maternity and Child Health Centre. This home, for boys aged 12-16, has a capacity of 50 children. It offers a nurturing environment with a large playground, basketball court, and a pet house.
2. Auxilium Snehalaya
Auxilium Snehalaya, established on January 31, 2003, is located in Bishnu Rabha Nagar, Noonmati, near the SO Guwahati Refinery gate. This home caters to girls aged 6-12, with a capacity of 50. Sr. Holibon Madar is the Superintendent, and Sr. Teresa Rakho is the assistant. The girls attend a nearby government school.
3. Jyoti Snehalaya, Beltola
Jyoti Snehalaya, established on April 3, 2004, in Beltola, Guwahati, is a dedicated Child Care Institution for female destitutes aged 13-18. With a capacity of 50 girls, it offers a nurturing environment with extracurricular activities, formal education, vocational training, and regular counseling.
4. ILA Snehalaya, Betkuchi
ILA Snehalaya, established on November 1, 2004, is located in Betkuchi near ISBT and Balaji Temple. It accommodates 50 male children aged 6-12 years. The home offers a peaceful, spacious environment with a playground, education at Moinakhurung MV School, and extracurricular activities like computer classes, dance, art, and writing skills.
5. Snehalaya Centre for Child Rights, Paltan Bazar
This children home is located in the heart of Guwahati’s Paltan Bazar near Meghdoot Cinema, serves as the head office of Snehalaya and a Child Care Institution (CCI) for boys aged 16-18, with transit accommodation for those aged 13-18. Established on October 4, 2010, with a capacity of 50, it offers academics, professional counseling, extracurricular activities like sports, dance, music, and computer classes, alongside health facilities.
Programmes:
1. After Care: The Aftercare project helps youths, aged 18-21, transition from institutional care to independent living by providing stipends, education, vocational training, job placement, and housing, supporting their reintegration into society. Till now 169 beneficiaries have benefitted from this programme
2. Child Friendly Guwahati (CFG): Launched in 2013, Child Friendly Guwahati (CFG) is a Snehalaya initiative supporting underprivileged children by offering education, vocational training, and job placements, helping school dropouts rejoin mainstream education and become self- reliant.
3. Home Link: Launched in May 2014, the Homelink Network System (HLK) operates from Snehalaya’s Guwahati Hub, connecting eight registered nodes across Assam, Meghalaya, and Manipur, focusing on data-driven management, decision-making, planning.,
Services:
- Educational Support
Provide Educational Support for Out-of-School/never enrolled children.
- Child Protection
Raises awareness about child rights and promotes child protection.
- Community engagement
Organizes workshop, training sessions and community awareness program.
- Counseling
Provide individual and group counseling for children.
- Child Rescue
Rescue children from child labor, abuse, exploitation, and neglect, with a special focus on those in urgent need of care, protection.
- Institutional Care
Provide shelter for children who are in need of care and protection.
