Hostels & Boardings

Hostels and Boardings:

The Hostel and Boarding Commission strives to ensure the welfare and holistic development of underprivileged young boys residing in our Salesian hostels and boardings across the Province. The commission is attentive to their needs and challenges, and seeks to promote a nurturing, value-based environment.

Activities Undertaken by the Commission in 2024-2025:

  • Regular commission meetings are held three times a year to evaluate the functioning of hostels and boarding houses and to plan future actions.
  • The commission has appointed zonal in-charges to oversee the hostels and boardings in different regions of the Province.
  • To foster unity and brotherhood among boys from different centers, the commission plans to organize inter-boarding activities at the regional level.
  • The commission has observed a decline in the number of boarders due to the rising cost of boarding fees, which many families are unable to afford.
  • It has also been noted that disciplinary fines imposed on boys are often high and demotivating.
  • In some hostels, a six-month advance payment policy poses a financial burden on parents, preventing many students from gaining admission.

Action Plan:

  • A Google Form will be circulated to collect updated data from all centers regarding the current status of hostels and boardings.
  • A province-level meeting of all boarding and hostel administrators is scheduled for October 2025 to review policies, share best practices, and identify concrete steps to make our boarding houses more accessible and formative for the young.
