Ecology and Care of the Earth:
The Ecology and Environment Commission of the Province of Guwahati, has outlined a comprehensive plan for 2025. The commission’s mission is rooted in fostering a sustainable relationship between humanity and nature, inspired by Sacred Scriptures, the teachings of the Church, and the encyclical Laudato Si’. The vision emphasizes stewardship, ecological awareness, and actionable sustainability practices.
Key Activities Planned for 2025
- Province-Level Competitions: The commission will organize quizzes, drawing contests, and reel-making competitions centered on environmental themes to engage students and raise awareness.
- Plastic-Free Schools Initiative: A strict no-plastic policy will be implemented, banning mineral water bottles and promoting reusable alternatives.
- Waste Recycling Promotion: Schools will integrate recycling initiatives and waste management education into daily routines.
- Environmental Exhibitions and Notice Boards: Dedicated sections in annual exhibitions and themed notice boards will highlight environmental projects and tips for sustainable living.
- Bee Keeping and Herbal Gardens: Schools will launch bee-keeping projects and establish herbal gardens to enhance biodiversity.
- Tree and Bougainvillea Planting: Tree-planting drives and bougainvillea planting along boundary walls will improve campus aesthetics and prevent unauthorized access.
- Collaboration with Scouts and Guides: The commission will partner with the Scouts and Guides Commission to amplify environmental initiatives.
Short-Term Plans (2025-2027)
1. Eco-Awareness Campaigns: Addressing plastic pollution, climate change, and biodiversity loss through posters, social media, and events.
2. Green Campus Initiatives: Implementing recycling programs and waste separation practices in schools.
3. Environmental Education Workshops: Training teachers and students on sustainability through hands-on projects.
4. Eco-Spirituality Retreats: Hosting retreats with nature walks and reflections on ecological responsibility.
Long-Term Plans (2025-2030)
1. Green Energy Plan: Integrating renewable energy solutions across institutions to reduce carbon footprints.
2. Eco Clubs: Establishing student-led clubs to drive local environmental projects.
3. Organic Farming Programs: Promoting sustainable agriculture through workshops and community training.
