The First Communicants at St Dominic Savio Parish, Garobadha.
A day of deep spiritual joy and celebration unfolded at St. Dominic Savio Church, Garobadha, under the Diocese of Tura on 21 December 2025, as 137 children received their First Holy Communion. The church was filled with prayerful silence, reverent hymns, and radiant faces as the children encountered Jesus in the Holy Eucharist for the first time in their lives.
The Holy Eucharist was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Jogesh B. Sangma, SDB, Rector of Don Bosco Centre for Learning, who was nominated by Most Rev. Bishop Andrew R. Marak, D.D., the Bishop of Tura, to preside over this meaningful celebration. The liturgy was marked by simplicity, devotion, and active participation of the children, making the celebration both prayerful and memorable.
Dressed in white, symbolising purity and new life in Christ, the children approached the altar with great reverence and joy. Weeks of preparation through catechism classes, prayers, and guidance by priests, catechists, and parents bore fruit as the young communicants received the Body and Blood of Christ for the first time.
In his homily, Rev. Fr. Jogesh B. Sangma encouraged the children to nurture their friendship with Jesus and to remain faithful to prayer, the Sacraments, and Christian values.
Expressing his happiness on the occasion, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Siby John, SDB, thanked God for the gift of faith in the parish and rejoiced that such a large number of children could receive Jesus for the first time. He acknowledged the dedicated efforts of the catechists, parents, and parish collaborators who played an important role in preparing the children for this sacred milestone.
