Mr. Augustus Tigga, Executive Member, Bodoland Territorial Region at the Inauguration of the Free Eye Camp organised by Bosco Reach Out (BRO).
Bosco Reach Out organised a free, comprehensive eye check-up camp at Mahila Bhawan Doomni, Baksa, on 25 October 2025 with the aim of reducing avoidable blindness and promoting community eye health. The programme was supported by Don Bosco Mondo, Germany. The camp was inaugurated by Mr. Augustus Tigga, Executive Member, Bodoland Territorial Region. The programme was also honoured by the presence of Fr. Ignatius Gari, Associate Director of Bosco Reach Out, and Mr. Gabriel Tirkey, MIS (Technical), DC Office Mushalpur, Baksa, who encouraged the initiative and thanked the medical team for their service.
The clinical services were led by the medical team from the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Guwahati Medical College & Hospital, Guwahati, comprising: Dr. Shubham Kaushal (P.G.T.), Dr. Damodar Vishwakarma, Mr. Ringsar Baglari (Optometrist) and Mr. Imdad Ali Ahmed (B. Optm Intern). A total of 90 patients received free eye examinations at the camp. Of these, 31 patients were diagnosed with cataract and identified as candidates for cataract surgery. Prescribed medicines by doctors were distributed free of charge to those who required them.
Bosco Reach Out will facilitate the surgical care for the patients diagnosed with cataract. The organisation will arrange free transportation for the patients to and from Guwahati Medical College & Hospital, where the cataract surgeries will be provided free of cost. Bosco Reach Out will coordinate scheduling, pre-operative counselling, and post-operative follow-up to ensure safe treatment and recovery.
Members of the Doomni Tea Estate community expressed deep appreciation for the camp. Patients and their families conveyed gratitude for the accessible medical services and expressed hope and excitement about the prospect of restored vision following the planned surgeries.
