The migrant workers from the Satgaon area, now residing and working in Bangalore under the banner “Garo Migrants in Bangalore,” convened a meeting at Bosco Mane on October 12, 2025, to elect their new office bearers.
The following were elected to lead the association: Mr. Redip Sangma as President, Ms. Prachi Sangma as Vice President, Mr. Pitor Marak as Secretary, Ms. Ronali Sangma as Joint Secretary, and Ms. Krishin as Treasurer. The gathering witnessed the participation of around 70 members. On behalf of all present, Mr. Praful Sangma extended his congratulations to the newly elected leaders of the freshly formed group and wished them success in their responsibilities.
With the new executive committee overseeing the proceedings, the assembly went on to take several significant decisions, including continuing the monthly gatherings on the second Sunday at Bosco Mane, collecting membership fees from members, and organizing the Pre-Christmas celebration on December 7, 2025, at the same venue.
Earlier in the day, Rev. Fr. K. J. Jose, Director of Bosco Mane, celebrated the Holy Eucharist for the migrant community. In his homily, he warmly welcomed the young migrants to what he called their “home away from home,” encouraging them to work diligently, for “work is God’s will and workers have the noble task of making the world better.” Reflecting on the day’s readings, he urged the faithful to be grateful to God for His blessings and to one another for friendship, companionship, and mutual support.
It is worth mentioning that Fr. Deepu Mathew, SDB, Director of the Salesian Migrant Desk, Bangalore—who helped organize the meeting—was unable to attend due to a prior commitment.
The next gathering is scheduled for November 7, 2025, during which the community will hold its Pre-Christmas celebration, expected to draw a large assembly of members and well-wishers.
It is also worth noting that this was the second such gathering following the initial meeting organized jointly by the Salesian Migrant Desk, Guwahati, in collaboration with the Satgaon Salesian Migrant Desk and the Salesian Migrant Desk, Bangalore, which was held on September 7, 2025, at the same venue, Bosco Mane. The first event was attended by Fr. Ignatius Gari from Guwahati, Fr. Deepu Mathew from Bangalore, Fr. Albert Thyrniang from Satgaon, along with other Salesian Fathers and the staff of Bosco Mane.
