The Province organized a significant meeting on Mission Poverty Eradication on 11th October 2025 (Saturday) at Mario Hall, Provincial House, Panbazar. The event, themed “Together for a Dignified Tomorrow,” brought together Salesians and collaborators to reflect, discuss, and chart out concrete steps toward addressing the issue of poverty within the mission areas.
The meeting featured discussions on innovative strategies and collaborations to effectively combat poverty. Speaking on the occasion, Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial, stated that the purpose of the meeting was to disseminate and create awareness about Mission Poverty, which is the main thrust of the Salesians of South Asia. He remarked, “All the communities in the Province are doing good work, but not always in a focused way.”
He further added that Mission Poverty helps the Province as a whole to carry out its mission works consciously, keeping the poor at the center. “Since the launch of the programme in 2024, the SPCSA as well as the Province have been working to achieve a specific goal and to carry forward the plans of the Province,” he said. He concluded by emphasizing that much remains to be done to achieve this goal and that it is only through working together that the mission can become truly effective.
The meeting was coordinated by Rev. Fr. Ignatius Gari SDB, Province Coordinator for Mission Poverty Eradication, and animated by Rev. Fr. Tony Pellissery SDB, Director for Mission Poverty Eradication, South Asia. Fr. Tony guided the confreres in understanding the ten “Output Targets” proposed by the Province and their connection to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The confreres expressed great enthusiasm at the end of the meeting and resolved to work diligently towards completing the outlined tasks and carrying forward the mission in their respective communities.
This initiative seeks to translate Don Bosco’s spirit of service to the poor and marginalized into tangible actions that promote empowerment, education, and sustainable livelihoods. Through this mission, the Province renews its commitment to integral human development, focusing especially on the most vulnerable communities.
