A one-day research conclave on “Towards Achieving SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy)” was organized jointly by Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) and Assam Engineering College (AEC) on Sept 13. The event concluded with decisive outcomes for advancing the renewable energy landscape of the Northeast.
The conclave brought together academia, industry, and NGOs through 30 technical presentations, framing roadmaps for decentralized renewable energy pilots and strengthening academia–industry collaboration.
Eminent plenary speakers included Mrinal Krishna Choudhury (former director, AEDA), Bhaskar Kakoty (director & co-founder, Free Power Technology/FINER), Dr. Shovan Kumar Kundu (AIUB, Bangladesh), Dr. Pankaj Kalita (IIT Guwahati), Jayakumar Balasubramanian (director, Emertxe), Masfick Hazarika (program manager, Energy, WRI India), and Dr. Yannrenthung Odoyu (NIT Meghalaya). Their insights energized gap-analysis sessions and mapped pilot priorities for the region.
The technical presentations showcased cutting-edge, deployment-oriented research such as predictive maintenance of induction motors using dual sensor monitoring, machine-learning methods for smart-meter management, IoT-enabled solar retractable greenhouses, hydroponics, microgrid AC/DC hybrid analyses, and AI-based solar forecasting.
These deliberations led to targeted pilot proposals aimed at shaping the Northeast’s decentralized renewable energy future. Supported by Clean Energy Access Network, Emertxe, and WRI India, the conclave’s outcomes included actionable research roadmaps.
Organizers also announced follow-ups with industry and NGOs to ensure real-world impact and confirmed that selected papers will be published in the ADBU Journal of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (AJEEE).
