The Mary Help of Christians Church, Satgaon Parish, marked two significant events on 17th August 2025, the observance of National Youth Day and the conclusion of the 2nd Inter-Village Football Tournament 2025.
The day began with a solemn Eucharistic celebration at 7:30 a.m., presided over by Fr. Daniel Sangma, Youth Delegate. In his homily, drawing inspiration from the prophet Jeremiah, Fr. Sangma encouraged the young people to place their trust in God and not to make excuses in fulfilling the Creator’s mission in their lives. He also reminded them of the uplifting words of Pope Francis: “Hope does not disappoint.”
In the afternoon, a large crowd gathered at the Wakanta A village playground for the much-anticipated final of the football tournament. Fr. P.J. Joseph, Assistant Parish Priest of Sojong, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his address, he commended the organizers for the successful conduct of the tournament, which began on August 3. He emphasized the unifying power of the world’s most loved sport and extended heartfelt congratulations to the winners, runners-up, and all participating teams.
Also present at the event were Fr. Abraham Kanattu, Rector and Parish Priest of Sojong; Fr. Albert Thyrniang, Parish Priest of Satgaon; Sr. Mary Hasda, Superior and Headmistress of Satgaon Convent; along with other priests, church leaders, and local dignitaries.
The final match saw Jalpara A village emerge victorious, defeating Boldampara village with an impressive 4–0 scoreline, thereby lifting the trophy for the second consecutive year. Silchang Sangma of Jalpara A was named Player of the Tournament, while Boldampara striker Bebelson Marak emerged as the Top Scorer with 12 goals. Obinash Sangma, also from Boldampara, received the Best Goalkeeper Award for his outstanding saves.
Organized by the parish youth group, the tournament saw participation from 22 teams across the parish. The smooth conduct of the event was made possible through the dedicated efforts of youth leaders, the guidance of parish authorities, generous support from sponsors, and the collaboration of various groups within the parish community.
