The practical Trainees after the Practical Trainees’ Animation and Meeting at the Provincial House, Guwahati.
The Province hosted a two-day animation and meeting for Salesian practical trainees under the theme “Walking with the Young: Lessons from the Playground to the Chapel.” Held on August 9 to 10, 2025 the event aimed to equip practical trainees with essential skills and insights for their mission of accompanying youth in Salesian presences.
The programme commenced on Saturday with an opening prayer led by Bro Yacub Lakra SDB, followed by the lighting of the lamp and a welcome address by Rev Fr Charles Deepen Lakra SDB, the Province Secretary and Rector of the Provincial House. He shared five powerful mantras with Salesian practical trainees during his talk:
- “Your vocation and formation are your responsibility to a great extent.”
- “Be regular in practices of piety and make no excuses for missing personal and community prayers—it is between you and God.”
- “No community is perfect, so do not be scandalized when a confrere falls short of your expectations.”
- “Be a positive force in the community.”
- “Be loving, gentle, and understanding toward the youth entrusted to your care.”
His words resonated deeply with the trainees, reinforcing their commitment to spiritual discipline, community life, and pastoral service.
The first session, “Accompaniment of Young in our Salesian Presences,” was animated by Rev Fr Bivan R. Mukhim SDB, Vice Provincial who emphasized the importance of mentorship and guidance in youth ministry.
The day continued with a series of enriching sessions, including “Practical Training: Dos and Don’ts” by Rev Fr Bivan R. Mukhim SDB, “Interpersonal Relationship” by Rev Fr Cletus Sebastian SDB, and “Digital Discipleship” by Rev Fr Joy Kachappilly SDB, which explored the role of technology in modern evangelization. The trainees also gained valuable insights into financial management during the session “Fundamentals of Financial Accounting” led by Rev Fr Benny Alex SDB.
The evening featured group discussions, adoration, and evening prayer, fostering a spirit of reflection and community. The day concluded with the recitation of the Rosary and a goodnight talk by Rev. Fr. Francis Cheeramben SDB, who shared insights on the need to remain committed to the Lord.
On Sunday, the event concluded with Holy Mass at 7:00 AM, presided by Rev Fr Bivan R. Mukhim SDB, Vice Provincial. In his homily he spoke about true readiness for the Kingdom of God requires not only physical fitness but, more importantly, spiritual fitness, nourished by God’s Word, disciplined through prayer and sacrifice, and safeguarded by avoiding sin, so that we are always prepared for the Lord’s coming. Just as we work to keep our bodies healthy through right food, disciplined lifestyle, and a good environment, we must also nourish, discipline, and protect our spiritual life. Feeding on God’s Word, living a life of prayer and sacrifice, avoiding sin, and seeking God’s grace will keep us ready for the Lord’s coming, for “our prize is one that will last forever.” The Practical Trainees departed for their respective communities soon after breakfast.
