The Christ the King Church, Sojong, witnessed a day of meaningful dialogue, fraternal bonding, and regional reflection as the Salesians of the Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao regions gathered for a Regional Meeting.
The programme commenced at 10:00 AM with a Hymn to the Holy Spirit and an opening prayer led by Fr Cherak M. Sangma SDB. This was followed by the Words of Welcome, during which Fr Abraham Kanattu SDB, Rector of Sojong, warmly greeted all present and set a gracious tone for the day.
The Keynote Address was delivered by Fr Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial, who highlighted the purpose and significance of the gathering, underscoring the need for communal discernment in the spirit of synodality and pastoral care. He expressed gratitude to the confreres for their presence despite the long distances and challenging road conditions. Emphasizing the importance of unity, he spoke of the need to come together and renew the spirit of oneness. He reiterated that the meeting’s primary objective was to deliberate on GC29, which calls all Salesians “to be passionate for Christ and for the young.” Fr Kuricheal reminded the confreres of their mission and the importance of preserving the Salesian identity. He stressed the congregation’s vision for every Salesian: “The Centrality of the Eucharist”, and encouraged the Salesians of both regions to be true witnesses to their vocation and mission.
The first session, focused on GC29 (General Chapter 29), was animated by Fr Joy Kachappilly SDB, PC Moderator. His presentation was followed by a floor discussion, where participants engaged in clarifying doubts and raising pertinent questions regarding the GC29 document and its implications for the Salesian mission.
A special intervention by Rev. Fr Ignatius Gari SDB enlightened the confreres on the Poverty Eradication Mission of the SPCSA, providing valuable insights into current initiatives and possibilities for regional involvement.
Session II, which focused on the Concerns of the Regions, was moderated by Fr Johnson Parackal SDB. This session facilitated a meaningful exchange of ideas, challenges, and suggestions specifically related to the realities and needs of the communities in the Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao regions.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Fr Albert Thyrniang SDB, who acknowledged the presence, participation, and contributions of all attendees. The meeting came to a close with a Concluding Prayer led by Fr Dominic Mardi SDB, bringing a spirit-filled end to a day of reflection, renewal, and regional solidarity.
