The Salesians from the Garo Hills and Rabha Hasong regions gathered for a regional meeting on 28th June 2025 at the Don Bosco Centre for Learning (DBCL), Tura. The event brought together Rectors and Salesians from both regions to reflect, evaluate, and discuss pastoral priorities and regional concerns.
The meeting commenced at 9:30 AM with a welcome song and a choir performances by the students of Don Bosco Centre for Learning, Tura. This was followed by a band performance by the boys of Bosco Mount, Rongkhon. Fr. Jogesh B. Sangma SDB, Rector of DBCL, welcomed the Provincial, his team, and the confreres attending the regional meeting. After the formal welcome, Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial, addressed the boys and aspirants, thanking them for the warm welcome and the hospitality shown to all who visit DBCL. He especially congratulated Fr. Jogesh B. Sangma and the community for their generous hospitality.
The formal programme began with a hymn to the Holy Spirit, followed by a prayer led by Rev. Fr. Punit Kr. Lakra, Rector of St. Dominic Savio Mission, Garobadha. This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the Provincial, Vice Provincial, Economer, and former Provincials—Rev. Fr. Januarius S. Sangma SDB and Rev. Fr. Joseph Almeida SDB—along with several confreres.
The keynote address was delivered by Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal, the Provincial, who set the tone for the day’s discussions with his inspiring message. He thanked the confreres for their presence and emphasized that the main objective of the meeting was to deliberate on the recently concluded 29th General Chapter (GC29). He urged everyone to “study and live the GC29,” encouraging them to work in the spirit of Don Bosco, as expressed in the theme of the GC29: “Passionate about Christ, Dedicated to the Young.” He further warned against losing the core priorities of Salesian life and offered two guiding principles: 1) To constantly remind ourselves that we are consecrated persons, and 2) To wholeheartedly dedicate ourselves to the young.
He concluded by stating that the very purpose of coming together was to reaffirm our commitment as Salesians. “We are not mere social workers; we are Salesians called to commit ourselves to Christ—not for personal gain but for the mission,” he added.
The first session, focused on the theme “Animation on GC29,” animated by Fr. Joy Kachappily, PC Moderator, and was followed by a floor discussion for further clarification on the GC29 deliberations.
The second session began with an input by Mr. Sebastian Horo from Bosco Reach Out, who animated the confreres on the Mission Poverty Eradication initiative of SPCSA. This was followed by discussions on the Concerns of the Region, especially those pertaining to the Garo Hills and Rabha Hasong areas. The session was moderated by Fr. Anikuzhikattil Tomey, Rector of Don Bosco Parish, Mendal.
The meeting concluded with a summary by Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal, Provincial, followed by a vote of thanks by Fr. Threnius N. Sangma, Rector of Don Bosco Boys’ Home, Tura. The concluding prayer was led by veteran missionary Rev. Fr. Alfred Marzo SDB.
