A spirit of joy and thanksgiving filled the air as St. Joseph Parish, Kumarikata solemnly celebrated the Blessing and Inauguration of the newly built Mary Queen of the Angels Church in Simliguri Village on Sunday, 22nd June 2025. The event was marked by faith, fellowship, and festivity, drawing parishioners from near and far.
The day began with a Holy Mass and Blessing of the church at 10:00 AM, presided over by Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial. In his homily, Fr. Sebastian highlighted the importance of the church as a sacred space for community worship, spiritual nourishment, and feeling the presence of God. He commended the efforts of the parish priest, the faithful, and benefactors whose generosity and hard work made the construction of the new church possible.
Following the liturgical celebration, a cultural programme was held, featuring dances from the different communities of the parish. The joyful atmosphere continued with a fellowship lunch, where parishioners and guests came together to share in the celebration.
Rev Fr Amit Chama Lakra SDB, Parish Priest welcomed the Provincial and all the parishioners for the inauguration of the village chapel. Rev Fr Nicodim Aind SDB, Provincial Councillor and Principal of Don Bosco School Sashipur and other Salesians were present at the Holy Mass. The inauguration of Mary Queen of the Angels Church marks a significant milestone in the spiritual journey of the faithful in Simliguri, offering a new home for prayer, celebration of the sacraments, and community building.
