The Communication Commission of the Salesian Province convened its strategic meeting on Friday, 30th May 2025, at the Board Room of the Provincial House, Guwahati. Chaired by Rev. Fr Joy Kachappilly SDB, the Provincial Delegate for Social Communication, the meeting was held in a blended mode and saw the participation of all commission members, both online and offline.
The agenda of the meeting included a critical evaluation of the March issue of Newsline, the official newsletter of the Province. Constructive feedback and suggestions were shared, and plans were laid for the upcoming issue to enhance its content and outreach.
The commission also carried out a review of the Province’s official website and social media platforms. Concerns were raised regarding the consistent and ethical sharing of photos and videos through the Province’s social media pages. The members resolved to set clearer guidelines and improve coordination in digital content management.
Looking ahead, the commission chalked out several publishing initiatives. Among them is the reprinting of the Assamese Bible, a project of pastoral and cultural significance. Plans were also made to reprint the translated works of St. Artemide Zatti in the Garo language. Another key highlight was the upcoming publication of a book by the late Fr Francis Hembrom SDB, which will soon be released in his memory. Additionally, several other Assamese-language books will be published with the support of Rev. Fr Alfred Marzo SDB.
A notable thrust of the meeting was the encouragement of young Salesians to actively engage in media creation and vlogging. This move is aimed at fostering a vibrant digital presence and enhancing the dissemination of news and faith-based content to a wider audience.
The meeting concluded with an open discussion on the “Way Forward” for the Commission, with a collective commitment to leverage media as a powerful tool for evangelization, education, and community building in the Salesian spirit.
