A memorial service in honour of the late Pope Francis was held on April 26, 2025 at Don Bosco High School Hall, Panbazar, Guwahati. Organized by the NEIRBC, Assam Christian Forum, CRI, and the Archdiocese of Guwahati, the service brought together members of the Christian community and people of goodwill to pay tribute to the beloved pontiff, who passed away on 21 April 2025.
The gathering reflected on the life and legacy of Pope Francis, hailed as a beacon of hope and compassion for millions worldwide. The service included heartfelt prayers, reflections, and moving testimonials that celebrated his teachings and enduring impact.
Rev Fr Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial gave the condolence message on the occasion. He spoke of the life of Pope Francis as an epitome of mercy, inclusiveness, love for the poor and marginalised. He has a rare capacity to listen, show sympathy and affection. “He has a special for those who are on the existential peripheries of the world- the poor, the marginalised, the prisoners, the migrants, refugees and displaced,” Fr Provincial said.
The event witnessed a strong turnout, with participants offering their respects and prayers for the eternal repose of Pope Francis’ soul.
“May the soul of Pope Francis rest in peace,” resonated as the closing prayer of the evening.
