
Rev Fr Albert Thyrniang, Director of the Migrant Help Desk, Satgaon, led the discussions during the one-day consultation, "Collaborative Action for Assam Migrants: A Stakeholder Dialogue," held at Don Bosco Institute, Kharghuli.
On March 20, 2025, a one-day consultation, “Collaborative Action for Assam Migrants: A Stakeholder Dialogue,” was successfully held at Don Bosco Institute, Kharguli, bringing together key stakeholders to address challenges faced by Assamese migrant workers in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, and Delhi.
Fr Ignatius Gari, Associate Director of Bosco Reach Out, welcomed and felicitated the participants, while Fr Francis Bosco, In-Charge of the South Asia Migrant Ministry, presented an analysis of migration trends. Chief Guest Shri Kanpai Das, Deputy Labour Commissioner of Assam, emphasized the need for greater support systems for migrant workers. Fr Albert Thyrniang, Director of the Migrant Help Desk, Satgaon, led the discussions, and Mr Allen Brooks, Former Minority Commission Member of Assam, extended gratitude to the attendees.
Discussions focused on understanding migration patterns, strengthening support structures at both origin and destination, and developing a collaborative action plan for migrant welfare. The event, attended by 50 representatives from civil society organizations, trade unions, religious groups, and government agencies, fostered meaningful dialogue and set the stage for collective action to improve the lives of Assam’s migrant workforce.
