
Fr Januarius S. Sangma SDB, Principal of Don Bosco College, Tura, the Chief Guest and other dignitaries being felicitated during the grand opening of the Annual Sports Week of Don Bosco HSS, Rongkhon.
The Inauguration of Sports Week at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Rongkhon, West Garo Hills, Meghalaya was held in the school playground on the 10th of March. This grand event was graced by esteemed guests: Chief Guest: FR. JANUARIUS S. SANGMA SDB Principal of DON BOSCO COLLEGE TURA Guest of Honour: FR. The guests entered the playground to the resounding claps and warm welcome by the waving of flags by the students. After the chief guest was received at the playground, he was accompanied by students dressed as security guards on to an open jeep to be escorted to inspect the marching contingents of the four teams of students. After the inspection, the olympic torch was lit by the students as a symbol of good will and harmony. After this was the march past by the different teams during which the chief guest received their salute as they passed by the stage set for the occasion. Then the participants took the oath to meaningfully participate in the sports and events.
Fr. Martin R. Marak, the Principal then welcomed the chief guest, other guests, the parents, well-wishers, staff, the students and the aspirants from Bosco Mount to the program. Following this the school came alive with spectacular performances by talented students from the tiny tots of class 1 and 2 and upwards to those of grade 12 who had been ably guided and accompanied by the teachers in practice. Fr. Benjamin exhorted the students to give their best pointing to the need to participate well.
Fr. Januarius, the Chief Guest declared the sports week 2025 open. He, in his speech inspirited the students towards true sportsmanship and excellence highlighting on how discipline in sports can set the tone for the students learn from experience and grow in aspects of discipline, team work and life skills to build a future for the self and the society.
Colorful cultural dances, drill and display of martial arts and songs showcasing tradition and talent added music, life and enthusiasm to the air.
At the end of the inaugural program, Sr. Jacinta Xalxo MSMHC, Vice-Principal proposed the vote of thanks.
