On February 6, fifteen households received piglets at Mary Help of Christians Church, Satgaon, during a brief yet meaningful distribution ceremony.
Fr. Albert Thyrniang, SDB, the parish priest, explained that this initiative marked the third phase of piglet distribution in the parish. The project, launched by BRO on September 18, 2022, initially provided 30 households with a pair of piglets each for rearing. As part of the agreement, beneficiaries were required to return two piglets to the parish after the first litter, enabling the parish to redistribute the piglets to other deserving families. The second phase was carried out on November 23, 2023, benefiting 16 households. “Although the third phase was originally planned for December 2024, it had to be postponed to today due to logistical difficulties” informed Fr. Albert.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Fr. Charles Sangma, the assistant parish priest, encouraged them to make the most of this opportunity by properly caring for the piglets to improve their family’s economic situation. He also shared success stories of individuals who had excelled in pig rearing.
Mr. Jacob Sangma, a local leader who played a key role in procuring the piglets, provided guidance on proper animal husbandry, emphasizing the importance of vaccination and medical care. Two representatives of the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to Satgaon Parish and BRO for their generosity and assured their commitment to raising the piglets responsibly.
