Saturday, 25th January 2025, marked a momentous occasion for the faithful of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Matia Majerburi, as Fr. Kolombiya Rabha, SDB, was ordained a priest of God. The ordination ceremony was presided over by His Grace Most Rev. John Moolachira, DD, Archbishop of Guwahati Archdiocese, at 10:30 a.m. The solemn Holy Mass witnessed the participation of over 30 priests, numerous religious sisters, and a large congregation of faithful from the parish and neighboring communities.
Fr. Kolombiya Rabha’s ordination was a historic milestone for the parish, as he is the first priest from the parish. The event was a testament to the faith and dedication of the people of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, who gathered in large numbers to celebrate the joyous occasion.
In his homily, Archbishop John Moolachira described the newly ordained priest as a “gift from the Lord.” He expressed gratitude to Fr. Kolombiya’s parents for nurturing their son’s vocation and commended the parish for supporting him in his journey to the priesthood. “The new priest becomes a blessing not only to his family but also to the Christian faithful,” the Archbishop said, as he encouraged Fr. Kolombiya to embrace his priestly duties with dedication and faith.
The felicitation programme following the Holy Mass was a heartfelt celebration of Fr. Kolombiya’s ordination. Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal, SDB, Provincial of the Salesian Province of Guwahati, expressed his profound gratitude to God for blessing the Salesian congregation with another priest. He thanked Fr. Bastin, the Parish Priest of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, and the Capuchin community for their meticulous arrangements, which made the day truly memorable.
In his address, Fr. Kuricheal emphasized the significance of the priestly vocation, describing a priest as “a gift to the family, the community, and the parish.” He called upon the faithful to support Fr. Kolombiya as he embarks on his journey of service, acknowledging the challenges of priesthood but reassuring him of God’s blessings to carry out his responsibilities faithfully.
The Provincial reminded the gathering, “To begin to say Mass is to begin to suffer,” highlighting the sacrifices inherent in the priestly vocation. He encouraged the community to preserve and cherish this precious gift and to offer their prayers and support to Fr. Kolombiya in his ministry.
The day concluded with a short felicitation programme, where the parishioners expressed their joy and pride.
