The DBSEM Principals’ Meet, a much-anticipated gathering of school leaders, was held on 23 January 2025 at the Mario Hall, Provincial House, Guwahati bringing together the vibrant ING Principals dedicated to advancing the mission of Don Bosco Educational Society. Coordinated by Fr. Alex Mathew SDB, Principal of Don Bosco Higher Secondary Panbazar, the event was marked by insightful discussions, innovative ideas, and a shared commitment to excellence.
The day began with the arrival of participants, followed by an opening prayer led by Fr. Victor Tigga SDB. Fr. Alex Mathew extended a warm welcome, setting the tone for a day of meaningful dialogue. Fr. Provincial Rev Fr Sebastian Kurichel SDB addressed the gathering, inspiring attendees with his vision for the future of Salesian education. In his speech he said that “all are learners and we need the support of one another.” By sitting in the principal’s chair doesn’t mean that we are expert in running schools, we need to learn and be continuous learners,” he added.
A key highlight of the meet was the session on legal matters particularly in attaining the Minority Status Certificate and minority rights, presented by Fr. Owen Chourappa, SJ. His presentation provided valuable insights into navigating legal frameworks, empowering the participants with knowledge critical to their roles as leaders of minority educational institutions.
Technology took center stage during the session on Metabook and Virtual Reality as teaching tools, led by Rosetta Konwar. Attendees explored the potential of these cutting-edge tools to transform the learning experience, reflecting the commitment of DBSEM to staying ahead in the educational landscape.
The open session, moderated by Fr. Nicodim Aind, facilitated discussions on pivotal topics, including the evaluation of half-yearly examinations, planning the academic calendar for 2025-26, syllabus preparation, textbook selection, and the role of Scouts and Guides. The session also delved into key policy frameworks such as NEP 2020, NCF-FS 2023, and NCF-SE 2023, as well as High-Performance Coaching (HPC) methodologies.
Fr Provincial in his concluding remarks asked all the principals of Don Bosco School in the province to strive towards excellence and take the schools forward with commitment and dedication. The meet concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Fr. Pradeep Ekka, followed by the resonant hymn to Don Bosco, reinforcing the shared spirit of community and mission.
