On 5 January 2025, the Christ the King Church in Dimakuchi was filled with joy and reverence as Most Rev. Michael Akasius Toppo, Bishop of Tezpur Diocese, ordained Deacon Jonas Kujur SDB to the priesthood. The ordination ceremony, which took place during the Holy Eucharist, was a momentous occasion for the Parish of Dimakuchi and the Salesian Congregation.
The place was packed with faithful from the parish and beyond, all eager to witness the sacred ordination. In his sermon, Bishop Akasius praised the parish for producing another priest, emphasizing the vital role of families as nurseries for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. He also expressed his gratitude to the family of the newly ordained priest for their unwavering support, which allowed Deacon Jonas to grow in religious life and reach this significant moment in his vocation.
The Provincial of the Salesian Province of Guwahati, Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, presented Deacon Jonas to Bishop Akasius for the rite of ordination. During the felicitation program, Fr. Sebastian spoke to the new priest, acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead in his ministry. He encouraged Fr. Jonas to place his trust in the Lord and in the community that will guide him, assuring him that joy and optimism will accompany his priestly ministry.
Fr. Jonas Kujur SDB, now a priest forever, expressed his gratitude in his address. With his religious motto, “Speak Lord, your Servant is Listening” (1 Samuel 3:10), he dedicated his life to the service of God and the Church. He extended heartfelt thanks to his parents, siblings, the Salesian Congregation, benefactors, and well-wishers who supported him in his journey to the altar.
