On 30th December 2024, the Mary Help of Christians Church in Satgaon witnessed a momentous day with two significant events—a grand marriage ceremony of 34 couples and the blessing of a newly built village church in Jalpara A.
The marriage ceremony, officiated by Fr. Charles Sangma, Assistant Parish Priest, saw 34 couples exchange vows in the presence of their families and a supportive congregation. The ceremony was the culmination of a preparation course conducted from 26th December, with sessions led by parish fathers, sisters, and head catechists. Special resource persons included Fr. Abraham, Rector and Parish Priest of Sojong, and Fr. Joseph Teron, Principal of Don Bosco School, Baithalangso.
Simultaneously, Fr. Abraham Kanatu, Rector and Parish Priest of Sojong, blessed the new church in Jalpara A, dedicated to Mary, Mother of the Church. Built entirely by the local community, the church stands as a testament to their faith and hard work. Fr. Abraham also celebrated the inaugural Eucharist, accompanied by Fr. PJ Joseph of Sojong, Fr. Dominic Mardi of Baithalangso, and other religious leaders.
In his homily, Fr. Albert, the Parish Priest, commended the village community for their dedication and resourcefulness. Drawing inspiration from the day’s readings, he likened the pillars of the new church to key aspects of faith: Christ as the central pillar, with the Bible, faith, leadership, and education supporting it. “The local church will remain firm if Christ is at the center and if its members are guided by faith, Scripture, and strong leadership,” he emphasized.
Approximately 1,500 faithful participated in the day’s celebrations, which concluded with a brief felicitation program. The event was a joyous milestone for the community, reflecting their unity and commitment to their shared faith.
