The training of Garo village catechists of Diphu diocese was inaugurated on 25th October, 2024 by Rev. Abraham Kanattu, Rector and Parish priest of Sojong at Mary Help of Christians Church, Satgaon (Satgaon parish), West Karbi Anglong, Assam.
Speaking as chief guest Fr. Kanattu presented St. Paul as the model of Catechists. As St. Paul prayed for the churches he established and often visited them so too the catechists should do the same for their faithful. Inspired by Philippians 1:3-11 the chief quest exhorted the catechists to emulate ‘The Apostle to the Gentiles’ in thanking God for the people who are entrusted to their care. “God chose St. Paul. He has chosen you also to perform his work” Fr. Kanattu concluded. Besides the Fathers of the parish, Sr. Mary Hasda, Superior and Headmistress, other sisters and head catechists were also present during the inaugural function.
On the first day of the training Fr. Charles Sangma enlightened the village leaders on the tenets of Faith and the Liturgical year, Fr. Albert Thyrniang delved on Synodality: the need of the time and the Books of the Bible and Fr. Justin Arul Chinnaparaj dwelled on the Pauline methods of preaching. On the second and third day Sr. Isabella S Sangma will join the panel of resource persons.
47 catechists are attending the annual three training program from different parishes of the diocese of Diphu.
