Students receiving the Rev. Fr. Sebastian Karotemprel Memorial Scholarships at Guwahati.
The Rev. Fr. Sebastian Karotemprel Memorial Scholarships (FSKMS) of the Salesian Province of Guwahati (ING) for the year 2025 were formally handed over to students from various centres of the Province in a meaningful and prayerful ceremony on 15 December 2025 at the Provincial House, Guwahati. This year, 51 deserving students benefited from the scholarship, receiving the scholarship from the hands of Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial.
Addressing the gathering, Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal emphasized that the scholarship is intended for students who have shown merit and commitment in their studies. Highlighting the holistic vision of education, he said that education is not merely the formation of the mind but also of the heart. He encouraged the students to be a positive influence in society, reminding them that education should not only impart knowledge but also make them useful and responsible citizens. “Do not think only of receiving,” he urged, “but learn also to contribute to society and to remain grateful to those who have helped you.” He further appreciated the farsightedness and generosity of Late Rev. Fr. Sebastian Karotemprel SDB, whose initiative in building a corpus fund continues to support students most in need.
Rev. Fr. Jayaprakash Anthonimuttu SDB, Economer, welcomed the gathering and exhorted the beneficiaries to remember today’s support when they are well placed in life. He encouraged them to extend a helping hand to others in the future once they secure good employment and stability.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Ms. Naina Minj expressed heartfelt gratitude for the assistance received. She thanked the Province for the opportunity and the much-needed financial support, stating that the scholarship eases the burden on students and opens doors for their future. She assured that the beneficiaries would honour this support through hard work, dedication, and sincere effort.
The programme began with an opening prayer led by Rev. Fr. Bivan Rodrigues Mukhim SDB, Vice Provincial, who thanked God for His abundant blessings and constant care shown through generous hearts committed to the education of young people. He prayed for wisdom, perseverance, and responsibility for all the beneficiaries, that they may make good use of the assistance for their growth in knowledge, character, and commitment to service. He also prayed for the repose of the soul of Fr. Sebastian Karotemprel, asking the Lord to reward him for his generosity and grant him eternal rest, while allowing his noble vision to continue bearing fruit in the lives of many young people.
