Students performed as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Don Bosco Institute, Kharghuli.
Don Bosco Institute (DBI), Kharghuli, a beacon of hope and education for the youth of Northeast India, celebrated its Silver Jubilee with great pomp and grandeur on November 22, 2025. The landmark event commemorated 25 years of dedicated service in nurturing and empowering countless young minds from the region.
The celebrations brought together a distinguished gathering of judges, government officials, clergy, religious, alumni, and friends of Don Bosco, all united in gratitude for a vision that has shaped generations. The evening was a vibrant tapestry of reminiscence, cultural tributes, and a renewed commitment to the institute’s mission.
The ceremony commenced with a traditional invocation, ‘Jyoti,’ and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. The Executive Director of DBI, Fr. Cletus Sebastian SDB, welcomed the guests while Dr Amarjyoti Choudhury, Chairman, Silver Jubilee Organising Committee extended a warm welcome to the invited guests and dignitaries, setting the tone for an evening of reflection and celebration.
A key highlight was the segment “DBI Roots & Wings – 25 Years,” which paid homage to the institute’s journey, followed by a captivating dance drama, “Immortal Echoes,” performed by DBI students.
The event was graced by eminent personalities. Hon’ble Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, Judge of the Supreme Court of India, was the Chief Guest and delivered the Jubilee Address. Shri Devajit Lon Saikia, Advocate General of Assam and Secretary of the BCCI, attended as the Guest of Honour.
Several significant milestones were unveiled during the function. The Guest of Honour inaugurated ‘AIGNITE’ and launched the autobiography of Fr. V.M. Thomas SDB, the Founder Director of DBI, titled “Building Dreams & Shaping Lives.” This was followed by the release of a book by Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, Judge, Supreme court of India.
The cultural segment of the evening was a major attraction, featuring a soulful jubilee choir and a musical tribute to the legends Bhupen Hazarika and Zubeen Garg, performed by renowned artist Ms. Sunita Bhuyan and a band led by Devasish Sharma, IAS. This segment also saw the inauguration of the ‘Zubeen Hall,’ named in honour of the iconic singer by the Chief Guest.
The Silver Jubilee celebration was not just a look back at 25 years of achievement but a powerful reaffirmation of Don Bosco Institute’s enduring commitment to building dreams and shaping lives in the Northeast for years to come.
