Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal, SDB, Provincial celebrating the Holy Mass in commemoration of the deceased Salesians who worked in the Province.
On November 10, 2025, the Holy Mass for the Deceased Salesian Confreres was held at the Catholic Cemetery, Uzanbazar, Guwahati at 2:30 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary. The celebration was presided over by Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal, SDB, Provincial. The annual commemoration Holy Mass was offered in remembrance and gratitude for the departed Salesians who had dedicated their lives to the mission of Don Bosco and had worked selflessly for the growth of the Province.
In his homily, Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal reflected deeply on the theme of remembrance, gratitude, and hope in the Resurrection. He reminded the gathering that the Holy Mass was being celebrated not only for those Salesians who rest in the Uzanbazar Cemetery, but also for those buried at Bosco Mount, Rongkhon, and in the Salesian cemetery in Shillong. He emphasized that each of these Salesians had contributed immensely to the life and growth of the Province through their years of dedicated service, pastoral commitment, and educational mission.
“The Province is deeply grateful to our deceased confreres who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith,” said the Provincial. “Their sacrifices, their spirit of service, and their unwavering faith continue to inspire the younger generations of Salesians. We remember them fondly and entrust their souls to the merciful love of God.”
The Holy Mass began with a poignant moment as the names of the deceased Salesians who served in the Province were solemnly read out. This act of remembrance evoked a deep sense of reverence and connection with the pioneers and missionaries who laid the foundations of the Salesian presence in Northeast India.
A good number of Salesians from various communities in and around Guwahati city participated in the Holy Mass. The atmosphere was one of prayerful reflection, unity, and gratitude as the confreres came together to honor those who had labored with zeal and joy for the cause of the young and the poor, following the charism of Don Bosco.
After the Mass, the Salesians gathered around the graves of the Salesians to offer tributes and prayers, symbolizing their ongoing love and remembrance for their departed brethren.
