Rev Fr Januarius S. Sangma SDB, the Chief Guest at the concluding ceremony of the School Sports Day at Rongjeng.
The Holy Family Higher Secondary School, Rongjeng, celebrated its Annual Sports Week 2025 from 28th to 31st October 2025 with great enthusiasm, showcasing the students’ athleticism, teamwork, and vibrant school spirit. The four-day event brought together a blend of sports competitions, cultural performances, and inspiring moments that reflected the school’s commitment to the holistic development of its students.
The inaugural ceremony on 28th October was graced by Rev. Fr. Francis Kalariparambil, Rector and Parish Priest of Damra Parish, as the Chief Guest. The ceremony began with the hoisting of the school flag by the Chief Guest, followed by a grand March Past presented by the four Houses, each marching in perfect rhythm and colour. The lighting of the Olympic torch symbolized the spirit of unity, perseverance, and sportsmanship that marked the entire week. A prayer dance by the students added a tone of reverence and grace to the event.
Rev. Fr. Pojit Marak, Principal of the school, delivered a warm and motivating welcome address, urging the students to participate with enthusiasm and determination. The audience was treated to a series of cultural performances, including lively dances and a drill display by the LP section, which highlighted discipline, coordination, and creativity.
In his speech, Fr. Francis emphasized the vital role of sports in fostering teamwork, discipline, and leadership among young people. He encouraged students to see sports not just as competition but as a means to build character and resilience. He then formally declared the Annual Sports Week 2025 open, drawing loud applause from the enthusiastic crowd.
The week witnessed a variety of sports and cultural events, where students participated wholeheartedly in track and field competitions, team games, and creative presentations. The campus buzzed with excitement and friendly rivalry, as each House strived to give its best.
The closing ceremony on 31st October was graced by Rev. Fr. Januarius S. Sangma, Principal of Don Bosco College, Tura, as the Chief Guest. He was warmly received and escorted to the playground by the Scouts and Guides, followed by another impressive March Past. The programme included captivating performances, a drill display by LP students, dances and songs by LP and UP sections, a Remix dance by Blue House representing the three tribes of Meghalaya, and a thematic dance by Yellow House that conveyed meaningful social messages.
In his address, Fr. Januarius S. Sangma commended the students, teachers, and organizers for the smooth and spirited conduct of the Sports Week. He fondly recalled the remarkable contributions of Fr. Battista Busolin toward the development of the Rongjeng mission and urged students to emulate such dedication and vision. He encouraged the young learners to strive for excellence both in academics and sports, reminding them that true success lies in perseverance and teamwork.
The event concluded with the distribution of trophies, medals, and certificates to the winners and participants. The playground echoed with cheers and applause as the champions proudly received their awards.
