On August 20, 2025 the Joplang Secondary School, Shallang, organized an Inter School Science Exhibition and Debate Competition with the participation of three schools from the area. The event was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Bivan Rodriques Mukhim SDB, Vice Provincial, in the presence of Rev. Fr. Markus Lakra SDB, Rector and Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Parish, Shallang, Rev. Fr. Alfred Marzo SDB, veteran missionary of Meghalaya, Rev. Fr. Hubert Marak SDB, Assistant Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Francis Kujur SDB, Assistant Parish Priest and Vice Principal, and Rev. Bro. Nirmal Ekka SDB, Principal of the school.
In his address at the opening programme, the Vice Provincial congratulated the school for organizing such an enriching event. He lauded the efforts of the teachers in guiding the students to prepare creative and innovative models, emphasizing that programmes of this nature enhance students’ knowledge and nurture their ability to think critically and imaginatively. He expressed gratitude to the school for the invitation and wished the programme great success.
The Science Exhibition featured a wide range of working models, attracting both students and parents. A notable highlight was the participation of students from lower classes, who enthusiastically contributed to project work. The participating schools included Holy Spirit School, Songsak, and Savio School, Remdim, alongside the host school.
The debate competition added a vibrant dimension to the event, with spirited exchanges among students from the participating schools. The competition reflected the students’ confidence, preparation, and keen interest in developing their oratory and critical thinking skills.
Welcoming the dignitaries, Bro. Nirmal Ekka SDB, Principal, commended the staff and students for their dedication and hard work in preparing for the exhibition and debate. He also expressed appreciation for the collaborative spirit of the schools that joined the programme.
The event left a lasting impression on the students, parents, and guests, highlighting the commitment of Joplang Secondary School to fostering academic excellence and holistic growth.
