
The Chief Guest (Retd) Prof. Jyotiprakash Tamuli, Professor and Head of the Department of Linguistics at Gauhati University speaking on the occasion of the Flag Hoisting at Don Bosco Senior Secondary School, Panbazar.
On 15 August 2025, theDon Bosco Senior Secondary School, Panbazar, celebrated the 79th Independence Day with patriotic zeal and dignity. The morning’s programme began with the hoisting of the Indian Flag in the presence of staff and students, marking the occasion with a sense of unity and national pride.
The Chief Guest for the event was Prof. Jyotiprakash Tamuli, retired Professor and Head of the Department of Linguistics at Gauhati University (2022). Prof. Tamuli, a distinguished academic, completed his doctoral research on lexical semantics at the University of Reading as a Commonwealth Academic Staff Scholar in 1998 and later served as a Commonwealth Post-doctoral Fellow at Lancaster University in 2009–10, working on a scheme for Parts of Speech Tagging for Assamese. His teaching and research have spanned Assamese grammar, lexicography, early literacy, and multilingual education, with a strong advocacy for recognising the central role of language in education.
Rev. Fr. Bromio Ch. Marak, SDB, Vice Principal, introduced the Chief Guest, while Rev. Fr. Alex Kattakayam, SDB, Principal, extended a warm welcome to the guests, staff, and students. The school’s NCC cadets and Scouts and Guides formed the marching contingent in the parade, adding a ceremonial touch to the celebrations.
Students presented a vibrant array of cultural programmes, showcasing their talents and expressing their love for the nation through music, dance, and drama. The event not only celebrated India’s independence but also inspired students to work towards the nation’s progress with dedication and unity.
