A grand gathering of youthful energy, discipline, and enthusiasm marked the opening of the Mini Boscoree and Scout Master Training Camp at Don Bosco School, Barpeta Road, which is being held from 30th June to 4th July 2025. The event drew over 1300 Scouts and Guides from several Don Bosco institutions across the Province, along with their dedicated Scout Masters and Guide Captains.
Organized under the aegis of the Don Bosco District Association, Assam, and affiliated with The Bharat Scouts and Guides, Assam (Reg. No. 41), the camp is designed not only as a vibrant platform for camaraderie and learning but also as a preparatory initiative for the National Boscoreescheduled to be held in Chennai.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Rev. Fr. Bivan Rodrigues Mukhim, SDB, Vice Provincial, as the Chief Guest. In his keynote address, he reflected on the timeless motto of Scouting “Be Prepared.” He emphasized that Scouts and Guides must be mentally, physically, and future-ready, pointing out that they are not just competing with peers today but also with technological advancements like robotics in the 21st century.
Fr. Bivan drew inspiration from the founder of Scouting, Robert Baden-Powell, describing him as a visionary and a contemporary of St. John Bosco. “Like Don Bosco, Baden-Powell was a man of his time, equipping youth with skills that remain relevant even today. This camp is an opportunity to learn and grow, preparing oneself for life’s challenges,” he said.
He also issued a heartfelt call to environmental responsibility, urging the young participants to keep their surroundings clean and green. “Global warming is real, and environmental degradation is happening before our eyes. Respect for Mother Earth is crucial if we want to live in peace and harmony with nature and humanity,” he added.
The leadership team for the Mini Boscoree includes:
- Fr. PX Francis, Camp Chief
- Fr. Joseph Solomon, Chief District Commissioner (Scouts and Guides)
- Mr. A. R. Lazar, ALT (S), District Training Commissioner (Scouts)
- Ms. Anna Rai, LT (G), District Training Commissioner (Guides)
They were joined by a team of well-trained Scout Masters and Guide Captains, ensuring the smooth conduct of the camp and a meaningful experience for all participants.
The Mini Boscoree continues to be a celebration of the Scouting spirit, one of learning, leadership, fellowship, and service deeply aligned with the vision of Don Bosco and Baden-Powell, inspiring the youth to rise as responsible citizens and future leaders.
