
A momentous occasion unfolded in the Diocese of Diphu and the Parish of Haflong as the faithful of Mahur Village gathered for the solemn inauguration and blessing of the newly constructed St. Mary’s Church on 21st June 2025, a substation of St. Francis Xavier Parish, Haflong. The celebration drew parishioners, clergy, and religious from across the region.
The ceremony began at 10:30 AM with the official inauguration and blessing, followed by the Holy Mass at 10:45 AM. The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Rt. Rev. Paul Mattekkatt D.D., Bishop of Diphu, who graciously accepted the invitation to lead the sacred occasion.
The newly built church stands as a symbol of faith and unity for the local Catholic community in Mahur Village. The initiative was headed by the Parish Council of St. Francis Xavier Parish under the leadership of Rev Fr. Albert D. Sangma, Rector and Parish Priest, and the support of the faithful and benefactors.
Mr. Henry Timung, Parish Council Secretary, along with the parishioners, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed towards the realization of this dream. He appreciated Rev Fr Thomas Kunnappillil SDB the former Parish Priest for initiating the construction of the chapel at Mahur. The event was not just a religious ceremony but also a testament to the enduring spirit of the Catholic community in the hill regions of Assam.
