The five clerics making their Perpetual Profession in the presence of Rev Fr Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial.
The Salesian Province of Mary Help of Christians, Guwahati, rejoiced as five clerics made their Perpetual Profession during a solemn Holy Eucharist held at St. Joseph’s Co-Cathedral, Panbazar, Guwahati, on Saturday, 24th May 2025. The celebration marked a significant milestone in the lives of Cl. Lakra Yacub, Cl. Xalxo Sanjay, Cl. Langngaikhama Henry, Cl. Kullu Lebanus, and Cl. Kerketta Jeevan Chandra, who committed themselves forever to the Salesian way of life.
The event commenced with the Holy Mass at 10:30 AM, with Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial, as the main celebrant. In his homily, Fr. Kuricheal emphasized the grace and beauty of religious commitment and urged the newly perpetually professed to live joyfully in the footsteps of Don Bosco. He said that like Mary, they too should offer themselves to God. The five clerics took their Perpetual Vows in the presence of Fr Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial.
Following the Eucharistic celebration, a felicitation programme was held at the Parish Hall. The event began with a soulful choral piece by the Hubert D’Rosario Aspirants and words of welcome by Rev. Fr. Joy Kachappilly SDB. Rev. Fr. Jerbasius Xalxo SDB led the felicitation of the five newly professed Salesians, followed by a joyous cake-cutting ceremony.
In his address, the Provincial, Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, praised the dedication and perseverance of the five clerics and thanked their formators and families for accompanying them in their vocational journey. “It is indeed difficult to make a lifelong commitment in today’s world. But these brothers, through the loving support and generous ‘yes’ of their families, have given their lives to the Lord. Today marks an important phase in their journey — a moment to live another profound ‘yes’ to God.” The Provincial said.
He added, ‘at the beginning of Mary’s life, no one knew her. Yet she was ready to obey God’s word, to respond with love, and to place her trust fully in Him. Mary pondered deeply the Word of God and allowed it to shape her response. In this, she becomes the model of all religious — always discerning, always trusting.’
He advised the newly professed clerics by saying, “there may be moments of uncertainty and doubt, but in those moments, we are called to place our trust in God, just as Mary did. Her close collaboration with God is a powerful reminder that our response to Him should always draw us closer to His love and mission. May Mary, our Mother and guide, show us the way to follow the Lord faithfully to the end of time. May she help these young Salesians in their consecrated life. And may Don Bosco, our Father and Founder, intercede for us and bless our commitment. Today, these brothers take a decisive step — a step that will lead them deeper into God’s plan for their lives.”
A congratulatory song by the DBI Youths added a lively spirit to the celebration. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Rev. Fr. Bivan R. Mukhim SDB, Vice Provincial, who expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the occasion.
The celebration concluded with a fellowship meal at the Provincial House, where Salesians, family members, and well-wishers came together in joyful communion.
