Hilarius Sangma, the second head catechist of Mary Help of Christians Church, Satgaon Parish on his Silver Jubilee of his service.
On May 1st, Hilarius Sangma, the second head catechist of Mary Help of Christians Church, Satgaon Parish, joyfully celebrated 25 years of dedicated catechetical service. The silver jubilee celebration was held in Boldampara village and was marked by a solemn Eucharistic celebration.
Fr. Abraham Kanattu, SDB, Parish Priest and Rector of Sojong, presided over the Holy Mass as the main celebrant. The homily was delivered by Fr. Albert Thyrniang, SDB, Parish Priest of Satgaon. Among the concelebrants were Fr. Joseph Teron, one of the former parish priests of the head catechist, Fr. Charles Sangma, and Fr. Daniel Sangma, both assistant parish priests.
During the celebration, Fr. Kanattu praised Mr. Sangma’s unwavering dedication and commitment over the past 25 years, describing his service as a true blessing to the Church. The Eucharist was offered in thanksgiving and for continued blessings upon the jubilant catechist.
In his homily, Fr. Thyrniang reflected on the many responsibilities of a head catechist—faith formation, keeping sacramental records, secretarial duties for parish meetings, and pastoral visits to village communities. Drawing inspiration from the feast of St. Joseph the Worker, he likened Mr. Sangma’s faithful service to that of St. Joseph’s devotion to the Holy Family, emphasizing the quiet strength and diligence behind his 25 years of ministry.
The Eucharistic celebration was followed by a heartfelt felicitation and cultural program. Songs, dances, and speeches from parishioners and villagers alike expressed deep appreciation and gratitude for Mr. Sangma’s tireless dedication to God and His people. The atmosphere was filled with admiration and joy, celebrating a man who has truly embodied faithful service to the Church for a quarter of a century.
