A momentous occasion unfolded for the Catholic faithful of Korebari village under Boko Parish on 17 March 2025 as the newly constructed Chapel of Mary Help of Christians was solemnly blessed by His Grace John Moolachira DD, the Archbishop of Guwahati. The blessing ceremony was marked by a Eucharistic celebration attended by Rev. Fr. Bivan Rodrigues Mukhim SDB, Vice Provincial, along with Fr. John Chellanthara SDB, Parish Priest of Boko, Rev. Fr. Mathias Mrong Marak SDB, Assistant Parish Priest, and several priests from Boko Parish and neighboring parishes.
During his homily, Archbishop John Moolachira engaged the congregation by posing a thought-provoking question: “What is the need of having this Church?” He encouraged the faithful to frequent the newly blessed chapel for prayer and to spend time in the presence of the Lord. Acknowledging the generosity of the chapel’s benefactors, Bruce and Helen Sedlock, he expressed deep gratitude for their contribution, which made the construction of the village chapel possible.
Korebari village is home to approximately 38 Catholic families, the majority of whom belong to the Garo community. Their faith and devotion were evident as they gathered in large numbers for this significant event.
Following the Holy Mass, a short felicitation programme was held, adding a cultural touch to the celebration. The students of Don Bosco School, Korebari, presented a graceful prayer dance and a vibrant Garo dance, while the Marian Sodality Association uplifted the gathering with a melodious song. Fr. John Chellanthara SDB, the Parish Priest, extended a warm welcome to all present, expressing appreciation for the efforts and commitment of those who contributed to the realization of the chapel.
