Rev Fr Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial along with the newly ordained priests of the Province during the celebration of New Priests’ Day 2025.
On 12th February 2025, the Province celebrated the New Priests’ Day 2025 at the Provincial House, Panbazar, bringing together Salesians, to honor the newly ordained priests. The celebration honored the newly ordained priests, including Fr. Jonas Kujur SDB, Fr. Cherak M. Sangma SDB, Fr. Kolombiya Rabha SDB, Fr. Birendra Dungdung SDB, Fr. Philemon Pumah SDB, Fr. Jecky G. Sangma SDB and Fr. Jerbasius Xalxo SDB.
The event began at 4:30 PM with an arrival and tea session, followed by a Solemn Holy Mass at 5:30 PM in Mario Hall. The main celebrant for the Mass was Fr. Kolombiya Rabha SDB, while the sermon was delivered by Fr. Jecky G. Sangma SDB. In his sermon, the new priest insisted on being faithful and humble to the service of priesthood. The Eucharistic celebration concluded with a vote of thanks from Fr. Philemon Pumah SDB.
Following the Mass, a felicitation programme was held to honor the new priests. The event featured songs by the Young Salesians, a welcome address by Fr. Ignatius Gari SDB, and congratulatory messages from various attendees. Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the significance of priestly service in the Salesian mission. He said that while the call to priesthood may seem rosy, the reality and challenges begin to surface once one is ordained. He commended the new priests for their courage in answering God’s call and reminded them of the need to dedicate their service to God daily.
A special moment in the program was the address by one of the new priests, Fr. Jonas Kujur SDB, who shared his reflections on his vocational journey. He thanked everyone and requested their prayers for the newly ordained priests. Fr. Kolombiya Rabha SDB also expressed appreciation for the support received during their formation. A short video presentation on the newly ordained priests was screened. The event concluded with a hymn to Don Bosco, followed by a fellowship supper.
The evening was marked by gratitude, joy, and a renewed commitment to the Salesian mission, as the province welcomed its new priests into their pastoral ministry.
