The Assam Don Bosco University, Azara Campus, joyfully celebrated the feast of St. John Bosco on January 30, 2025. The event, held at the university quadrangle from 9:45 AM to 10:30 AM, brought together Salesians, faculty members, students, and staff in a spirit of gratitude and festivity. The celebration honored Don Bosco’s enduring legacy as a father and friend of youth, reinforcing his values of education, faith, and service.
The program commenced with a warm welcome by the host, Athnasius Kerketta SDB, followed by an insightful introduction by Sniawshngain Papang SDB. This set the tone for a meaningful celebration centered around Don Bosco’s vision and mission. The event formally began with an opening prayer led by Fr. Joseph Nellanat, invoking divine blessings upon the gathering. This was followed by a melodious performance by the Bosco Youth Choir, which uplifted the spirits of the audience with their harmonious rendition.
A significant moment of the celebration was the offering of rose petals to the bust of Don Bosco as a mark of respect and gratitude. Fr. Joy Kachappilly (Rector), Fr. Joseph Nellanatt (Pro Vice Chancellor), Fr. Thomas Lakra (Campus Minister & Vice Rector), Fr. Anthony Dhasan (Warden & Administrator), Prof. Manoranjan Kalita (Director of School of Technology), and Shan Kundu (a student representative) came forward to pay tribute to the saint whose vision continues to guide young people worldwide. Following the tribute, Fr. Joy addressed the gathering with an inspiring message, emphasizing Don Bosco’s educational philosophy and his unwavering commitment to youth development by bridging a parallel connection between Don Bosco and Mahatma Gandhi. His words encouraged everyone to embody Don Bosco’s values in their daily lives.
To celebrate the joyous occasion, the Bosco Youth performed a vibrant group dance, captivating the audience with their enthusiasm and energy. This was followed by a shaking session, an engaging and interactive segment that brought a sense of unity and participation among the attendees. As the event drew to a close, the gathering joined in singing a hymn to Don Bosco, reaffirming their commitment to his mission of love and service. The celebration concluded with heartfelt expressions of gratitude and appreciation for all who contributed to making the event a success.
