St Michael the Archangel Parish, Damra, organised a two-day gathering for its women’s group, Michikmarang, on 14 and 15 August 2026, bringing together around 135 women for a time of prayer, reflection, formation and fellowship.

The programme was animated by Sr Isabela Sangma, Women Coordinator of the Guwahati Archdiocese, Guwahati, who served as the resource person for the gathering. The sessions focused on strengthening the spiritual life of women and deepening their vocation and responsibility within the family, Church and society.

Rev Fr Vincent Xalxo SDB, Rector and Parish Priest of Damra, welcomed the participants and spoke about the important role of mothers in building strong and faith-filled families. He encouraged the women to recognise their unique responsibility as nurturers, educators and witnesses of life in their homes. He also urged them to actively serve the parish while remaining committed to their families and becoming instruments of unity and love in their communities.

Fr Vincent invited the participants to look to the Blessed Virgin Mary as a model of Christian womanhood. He highlighted Mary’s humility, faith, obedience and willingness to place herself completely in God’s hands. He encouraged the women to imitate Mary by remaining prayerful, trusting in God amid difficulties, and bringing God’s presence into their families through their words, actions and example.

The first day began with a welcome at 4:30 p.m., followed by tea and the first session at 5:30 p.m. The evening programme included the Rosary, an opportunity for Confession and Eucharistic Adoration, providing the participants with a meaningful time for prayer and spiritual renewal. The day concluded with refreshments.

The second day, 15 August, began with the second session at 9:00 a.m. and included the hoisting of the National Flag, Confession and other spiritual activities. The gathering reached its spiritual culmination with the celebration of Holy Mass at 12:30 p.m., as the women joined the Church in celebrating the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The two-day gathering concluded with refreshments and fellowship before the participants departed. The programme provided the Michikmarang with an opportunity not only to strengthen their faith but also to renew their commitment to their families, parish and community, inspired by the example of Mary, the Mother of Jesus.
