Two Salesians from the Province, are participating in the Missionary Formation Course 2026 being held at Don Bosco Provincial House, Mawlai, Shillong. Rev. Fr Abraham Kanattu SDB, Rector and Parish Priest of Sojong, and Rev. Fr Bartholomew Marak SDB, Parish Priest of Rongkhon, are representing the Province at the annual missionary formation programme organised by the Salesians of Don Bosco, South Asia Region.

The course was inaugurated on 1 September 2026 with the participation of Salesians and members of the Salesian Family seeking to renew their commitment and deepen their zeal for service.

Welcoming the participants, Rev. Fr Jeevan Lakra SDB, Vice Provincial and Rector, reflected on the Salesian motto Da mihi animas, cetera tolle – “Give me souls, take away the rest.” He described missionaries as the “hands, feet and heart of Christ”, emphasising that, despite their diverse cultural, linguistic and social backgrounds, the participants are united by a common identity and mission, the Salesian mission entrusted to them by Jesus Christ.

Rev. Fr John Zosiama SDB, Provincial, highlighted the significance of conducting the formation experience in the northeastern states, particularly Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland, where Christianity has a strong presence. He expressed the hope that the participants’ exposure to the region and its Christian communities would renew their enthusiasm and strengthen their commitment to proclaming life and service.

Addressing the distinctive character of Salesian missionary work, Rev. Fr Genesius Wanniang SDB, Economer, emphasised that Salesian missionaries are shaped by the particular charism of Don Bosco. He noted that the Salesian spirit gives missionary service a distinctive identity and influences the way Salesians live, accompany and serve among the people and to the nation-building.

The Missionary Formation Course 2026 provides participants with opportunities for reflection, renewal, fraternity and deeper engagement with the missionary dimension of the Salesian vocation.
