A three-day Workshop on “Participatory Models of Higher Education”, organised by the International Association of Salesian Institutions of Higher Education (IUS) and hosted by the Higher Education Commission of the Salesian Province of Mary Help of Christians, Guwahati, commenced on 13 July 2026 at Don Bosco Institute (DBI), Kharghuli. The workshop will continue until 15 July 2026.
The programme has brought together 50 faculty members representing the Province’s institutions of higher learning, including Assam Don Bosco University, Don Bosco College Chapaguri, Don Bosco College Tura, and Don Bosco College Diphu. The workshop aims to promote participatory approaches in higher education, enabling educators to foster collaborative learning environments and strengthen the Salesian educational mission.
The workshop was inaugurated by Rev. Fr Sebastian Kuricheal, SDB, Provincial, who encouraged the participants to strive for excellence in higher education by providing quality education and holistic formation to young people. In his inaugural address, he expressed the hope that the three-day programme would enrich the participants with new insights and practical methodologies that they could implement in their respective institutions for the benefit of students and the wider academic community.
The workshop is being facilitated by Mr Mark Pixley and Mr Shirish Sebastian, who bring extensive experience in participatory learning and institutional development. Through interactive sessions, discussions, and collaborative activities, they will guide participants in exploring innovative models of teaching, learning, and institutional engagement.
The workshop is being coordinated by Rev. Fr Abhilash Vadakkekara, SDB, Sector Head of the Higher Education Commission of the Province, in collaboration with IUS. The initiative reflects the Province’s continued commitment to strengthening its higher education institutions by promoting innovative pedagogical practices, collaborative leadership, and academic excellence in the spirit of Don Bosco.
