The SDB Community of St. Dominic Savio Church, Garobadha, celebrated a historic and grace-filled occasion on Sunday, 2nd August 2026, with the solemn Inauguration and Blessing of St. Maurice Chapel at Gandhipara. The event marked another significant milestone in the missionary and pastoral journey of the parish, providing the Catholic faithful of Gandhipara with a beautiful new place of worship and spiritual nourishment. The celebration was graced by the presence of 14 priests and 8 religious sisters, along with benefactors, village leaders, parishioners, youth, children, and hundreds of faithful from Gandhipara and the neighbouring villages, all united in thanksgiving to God for this great blessing.
The auspicious occasion was presided over by Most Rev. C. J. Jose, DD, Auxiliary Bishop of Tura, who solemnly inaugurated and blessed the newly constructed chapel. The celebration was further honoured by the presence of Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal, SDB, Provincial of the Salesian Province of Gawahati, and Rev. Fr. Jaya Prakash, SDB, Provincial Economer, Fr. Punit Kumar Lakra SDB, Rector and Principal and Fr. Siby John, Parish Priest, whose presence reflected the support and encouragement of the Salesian Province for the missionary activities in Garobadha.
The programme commenced at 9:30 a.m. with the inauguration and blessing ceremony. Amidst hymns of praise and prayer, the Bishop blessed the entrance of the chapel and officially declared it open for divine worship. The faithful joyfully entered the chapel, witnessing the fulfilment of a dream that had been nurtured for many years through prayer, sacrifice, generous collaboration, and the unwavering faith of the Christian community.
The liturgical celebration was made even more solemn by the participation of Shri Subir M. Marak Hon’ble MLA, Rangsakona Constituent and 14 priests and 8 religious sisters, reflecting the unity of the local Church and the collaborative missionary spirit of the Salesian Family. Their presence added dignity and spiritual significance to this memorable occasion.
