The Platinum Jubilee of Tangla Parish was formally inaugurated on 31 May 2026 at the parish compound in the presence of Rev. Fr. Bhaskar Raj Chinthamalla, SDB, Parish Priests, Salesian confreres, religious sisters, and a large number of faithful. The grand Jubilee celebrations are scheduled to be held in October 2026.
Established in 1951, Tangla Parish is one of the oldest Catholic missions on the north bank of the Brahmaputra. The parish serves a diverse Catholic population comprising mainly Adivasi communities, along with Bodos, Garos, Rabhas, and others. The foundations of the mission were laid by pioneering Salesian missionaries Fr. Guido Colussi and Fr. Marino Peditto, whose dedicated efforts led to the establishment of the church, school, hostel, and various pastoral initiatives.
Over the past seventy-five years, Tangla Parish has grown into a vibrant centre of faith and evangelization. It has given rise to several daughter parishes, including Udalguri, Ambagaon, Mangaldoi, Rowta, and Dimakuchi, while also fostering numerous vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
The inauguration marked a moment of thanksgiving for the rich legacy of the parish and a renewal of commitment to its mission. As the parish prepares for the grand Platinum Jubilee celebrations in October, the faithful look forward to celebrating 75 years of faith, service, education, and evangelization in the region.
