The Summer Time Youth Ministry (STYM) 2026 was inaugurated with great enthusiasm and spiritual fervour on July 3, 2026 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Rongjeng, bringing together young people, Salesians, parishioners, and well-wishers for a celebration of faith, fellowship, and youth empowerment.

The inaugural programme began with a warm traditional welcome extended by Rev. Fr. Simplicius Kerketta, SDB, Parish Priest of Holy Family Church, Rongjeng. The Chief Guest, Rev. Fr. Januarius S. Sangma, SDB, Rector and Principal of Don Bosco College Higher Secondary Section, Tura, along with other distinguished guests, was honoured by the parish youth with a traditional Garo Pandra and bouquets of flowers, reflecting the rich cultural heritage and hospitality of the Garo community.

Addressing the gathering, Fr. Januarius S. Sangma appreciated the Salesian Province of Guwahati for launching the Summer Time Youth Ministry across its parishes. He explained that the initiative aims to help young people rediscover the importance of belonging to their parish community while nurturing the enthusiasm, joy, and vibrancy that characterize youth. He encouraged the participants to make the most of the programme by actively participating in its activities and growing in faith, leadership, and service.

The inaugural celebration was followed by the Holy Eucharist, during which Fr. Januarius reflected on the feast of St. Thomas the Apostle. Drawing inspiration from the Apostle’s courageous witness, he urged the young people to be fearless in living and proclaiming the Gospel.

“Like St. Thomas, we must be ready to go wherever God calls us and proclaim the Good News of Salvation without counting the cost,” he said. “As young people, we are called to make sacrifices for the Kingdom of God and become courageous witnesses of Christ in today’s world.”

During the programme, Rev. Fr. Bivan Rodrigues Mukhim, SDB, Vice Provincial of the Salesian Province of Guwahati, interacted with the youth and clarified the role and responsibilities of every Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) member. He encouraged them to become active participants in parish life, deepen their relationship with Christ, and embody the values of Don Bosco through service, leadership, and joyful witness.
