On 15 August 2025, the St. Dominic Savio Higher Secondary School, Garobadha, joyfully celebrated the 79th Independence Day of India with a vibrant display of patriotism, unity, and enthusiasm. The school campus came alive with the spirit of freedom as staff, students, and parents gathered to honour the nation’s historic day.

The celebration began at 8:00 a.m. with the arrival of the Principal, Rev. Fr. Punit Kumar Lakra SDB, accompanied by the Vice Principal, teachers, and invited guests. The Principal hoisted the National Flag, followed by the entire assembly singing the National Anthem with pride and reverence. Students saluted the Tricolour with deep respect, creating an atmosphere charged with patriotic fervour.

In his address, Rev. Fr. Punit Kumar Lakra paid tribute to the sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters and urged students to uphold the values of unity, peace, and responsibility as citizens. He reminded everyone that true patriotism is expressed through honesty, hard work, and service to others.

The cultural programme opened with a stirring patriotic song by the school choir. Students delivered inspiring speeches in English, Hindi, and Garo, reflecting on the significance of Independence Day. Colourful dances and skits depicted the nation’s freedom struggle and its progress in various fields, instilling pride in the hearts of the audience.

A highlight of the day was the Unity Dance based on the theme “Brothers and Sisters,” gracefully performed by students to symbolise harmony and mutual respect. The participation of students from Classes VIII to XII, along with their teachers, fostered a spirit of togetherness.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Vice Principal Fr. Anmol Soreng SDB, who expressed gratitude to all who contributed to making the celebration memorable. Sweets were distributed to the gathering, leaving everyone with a renewed sense of commitment to the nation.
