The inauguration of the Savio Music Academy marked a memorable milestone in the life of St. Dominic Savio Hostel, Garobadha. It was truly a red-letter day for the hostel boys as they joyfully witnessed the formal opening of an academy dedicated to nurturing their musical talents and fostering their holistic development in the true Salesian spirit on 28 July 2026.

The programme began immediately after the morning Community Holy Mass. The hostel boys assembled in the Parish Audio-Visual Room, where the inauguration ceremony was held in a joyful and prayerful atmosphere. The gathering reflected the enthusiasm and excitement of the students, who eagerly looked forward to the opportunities that the academy would provide.

Addressing the gathering, Fr. Punit Kumar Lakra, SDB, Rector of St. Dominic Savio Parish and Principal of St. Dominic Savio Higher Secondary School, emphasized the significant role of music in the formation of young people. Referring to the educational vision of St. John Bosco, he explained that music is not merely a form of entertainment but a powerful means of education, discipline, creativity, and spiritual growth. He encouraged the hostel boys to make the best use of the Savio Music Academy by learning musical instruments, developing their vocal talents, and participating actively in liturgical celebrations, cultural programmes, and community events.

Fr. Punit reminded the boys that music has the power to unite people, enrich prayer, build confidence, and provide a healthy outlet for expressing emotions and creativity. He encouraged every boy to discover and cultivate the talents that God has entrusted to him, assuring them that dedication and regular practice would help them achieve excellence.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of Fr. Anmol Soreng, SDB, Cl. Jackey Basumutary SDB and the Hostel Warden, Mr. Jowel M. Sangma whose presence added joy and encouragement to the occasion. They expressed their appreciation for the initiative and motivated the boys to participate wholeheartedly in the activities of the academy.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and words of encouragement to all the hostel boys. The atmosphere was filled with hope and enthusiasm as everyone looked forward to the academy becoming a vibrant centre for learning, creativity, and the discovery of young talents.
