Defending champions Mary Help of Christians Church, Satgaon Parish, began their campaign in style with a thumping 7–0 victory over Jengkha Parish in the opening match of the 5th Inter-Parish Football Tournament 2025 of Diphu Diocese (West Karbi Anglong Zone). The match was played at the Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Sojong playground, in the presence of Mr. Rupsing Teron, MLA, who graced the inaugural function, Fr. Abraham Kanattu, Rector and parish priest of Christ the King Church, Sojong, Fr. Nelson Teron, President of Inter Parish Football Tournament, Diphu and other guests.

Despite dominating possession in the first half, Satgaon managed to score only one gaol, squandering several clear chances. However, after the interval, the defending champions turned on the heat, netting goals at will. Striker Reverent Sangma and midfielder Thomi Sangma both registered hat-tricks, sealing an emphatic win for their side.

The team’s recent exposure in the Inter-Village Tournament hosted in Satgaon Parish appears to have sharpened their skills, making them strong contenders once again. Coached by Fr. Daniel Sangma, Assistant Parish Priest, the champions are determined to defend their title and lift the cup this year as well.

It may be mentioned that the tournament is being played in two zones. The winner of the East Karbi Anglong Zone will face the West Karbi Anglong Zone champion in the grand final, scheduled for September 11, 2025.
