The Quinquennium 2026 of the Province, an ongoing formation programme for Salesian priests and brothers in their first five years after priestly ordination and perpetual profession, was held from 3 to 6 September 2026at the Provincial House, Panbazar. The four-day programme was animated by Rev. Fr George Maliekal, SDB, Former Provincial of Shillong, and brought together young Salesian priests and brothers for reflection, sharing, spiritual renewal and fraternity during the initial years of their priestly ministry.

Addressing the gathering at the Inaugural Programme, Rev. Fr Sebastian Kuricheal, SDB, Provincial, emphasized that formation does not come to an end with perpetual profession or priestly ordination. Rather, it is a lifelong journey of becoming more authentic religious, priests and persons through constant conversion, renewal and growth. Referring to the Salesian Constitutions, he reminded the participants that each Salesian accepts personal responsibility for his own formation.

Fr Sebastian encouraged the young Salesians to make the most of the four-day gathering as an opportunity to share experiences, learn from one another and enrich themselves through fraternity. He described the Quinquennium as a “chance of grace” given by God to those in the first five years of their priestly and religious journey, offering them an opportunity to reflect on their experiences and recommit themselves to their vocation and mission.

The Provincial particularly stressed the importance of remaining “rooted in Christ and committed to the mission.” He noted that spiritual growth and deeper union with Christ enable Salesians to carry out their mission with greater fruitfulness. He encouraged the participants to see their diverse experiences in schools, parishes and other communities as opportunities for growth and learning.

He also urged the participants to develop a positive outlook in community life. While acknowledging that negative experiences can sometimes remain strongly in one’s memory, he encouraged the young Salesians not to dwell on such experiences but to recognize and appreciate the good they encounter in their communities. By doing so, they can contribute positively to building one another up and strengthening the mission.

Fr Sebastian called on the participants to use the Quinquennium as a moment to renew their commitment to the Lord and to grow in fidelity, generosity and dedication. He expressed the hope that the gathering would bear fruit in their future ministry and help them become better persons, religious and priests.

Concluding his address, the Provincial invoked the blessing and assistance of Mary Help of Christians and wished the participants fruitful days of fraternity, reflection and renewal.

The participants had the opportunity to share their priestly experiences during the afternoon sessions. On the final day of the Quinquennium, Rev. Fr. Bivan Rodriques Mukhim, SDB, Vice Provincial, disseminated the Ratio to the newly ordained priests. The Quinquennium 2026 concluded with the sharing of experiences and feedback from the participants.
