Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal, Provincial, addressed the students of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Satgaon during the morning assembly on June 10, 2026.
In his address, Fr. Kuricheal expressed his joy at visiting Satgaon and meeting the staff and students of the institution. He appreciated the evident growth of the school, both in terms of infrastructure and academic quality. He also commended the students for the well conducted assembly and the spirited welcome song rendered by the students of class X.
Encouraging the students, he urged them to pursue continuous improvement through consistent and persistent individual and collective effort. Drawing from his experience as a veteran missionary in the Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao regions, he reflected on the many challenges faced in earlier years and noted that the two hill districts still continue to encounter developmental difficulties.
Expressing happiness at the diverse student population, he reminded everyone that Don Bosco institutions are committed to the holistic upliftment of all communities without discrimination. He thanked the Fathers and sisters who dedicatedly work in the school.
On a solemn note, Fr. Kuricheal offered his condolences to the school community and the bereaved parents following the tragic demise of two Class IX students on the previous Saturday. He also used the occasion to stress the importance of road safety, advising students to strictly adhere to traffic regulations—particularly that minors should not drive, helmets must always be worn, motorcyclists should not carry more than one person, and speed limits must be respected.
Fr. Jayaprakash, Economer of the community, was also present, along with the Salesian confreres serving at the centre.
Earlier, Fr. Albert Thyrniang, Principal and Parish Priest, welcomed the distinguished guests who had arrived the previous evening. He expressed pride in sharing that the school’s 1,300-plus students represent various communities, including Garo, Karbi, Dimasa, Tiwa, Boro, Nepali, Bengali, and others. He noted that this rich blend of tribes, cultures, and languages greatly enriches the school environment.
