The Salesian Province of Guwahati extends its heartfelt congratulations to Rev. Fr. Sunil Kerketta, SDB, on his installation as the new Provincial of the Salesian Province of Kolkata (INC). The installation was solemnly carried out by the Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, Fr. Fabio Attard, SDB, the 11th Successor of Don Bosco, on Sunday, 8 February 2026. Rev Fr Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial represented the province at the programme at Kolkata.

Fr. Kerketta, nominated Provincial designate on 2 December 2025 with the consent of the General Council, succeeds Fr. Joseph Pauria, SDB, who guided the Province since 2020. He now assumes office as the 18th Provincial of the Kolkata Province, which comprises 263 confreres with a median age of 50, serving across India, Bangladesh, and Nepal.

In his installation homily, Rector Major Fr. Attard underlined the importance of continuity and fidelity to Don Bosco’s charism, reminding that the Provincial is called to be “a father, brother, and guide” who keeps the Salesian mission vibrant in every community and apostolate. Expressing his gratitude, Fr. Kerketta accepted the responsibility with humility, affirming his commitment to walk with the confreres and to bring hope to young people, especially those most at risk.

Born in Birta Girjatoli village, Jharkhand, Fr. Kerketta brings with him rich pastoral and formation experience, having served the Congregation in various capacities over the years. The Province of Guwahati assures him of its prayers and fraternal support as he begins this important ministry of leadership and service.
