St Michael Church, Damra, witnessed a moment of grace and joy on Sunday, 17 May 2026, as Rev. Fr. Vincent Xalxo was formally installed as the new Parish Priest during a Eucharistic celebration attended by parishioners, religious, and well-wishers. The installation ceremony marked an important pastoral transition in the life of the parish community as the faithful gathered in prayer and thanksgiving to welcome their new shepherd.

The Holy Mass was presided over by Rev. Fr. Jacob Mattathil, Parish Priest of Rangjuli, who was officially delegated by the Archbishop of Guwahati, Most Rev. John Moolachira, D.D., to conduct the canonical installation ceremony on behalf of the Archdiocese. The liturgical celebration was marked by devotion, reverence, and active participation of the faithful, reflecting the unity and vibrant spirit of the Christian community in Damra.

During the installation rite, Fr. Vincent Xalxo publicly made the Profession of Faith and solemnly promised before the Church and the faithful that he would faithfully carry out the responsibilities entrusted to him by the Church and by the Salesian Province. The symbolic rite highlighted his commitment to shepherd the people entrusted to his care with dedication, fidelity, and pastoral zeal.

In his homily, Fr. Jacob Mattathil congratulated Fr. Vincent on assuming his new responsibility and encouraged the faithful to support him wholeheartedly through prayer, cooperation, and active participation in the life of the parish. Speaking about the mission of a Parish Priest, Fr. Jacob reminded the congregation that a priest is called to be a spiritual guide, teacher, and servant of God’s people. He emphasized that the pastoral ministry of the Church becomes fruitful when the faithful walk together with their priests in unity and faith.

Fr. Jacob also urged the parish community to strengthen the spirit of communion within the Church and to collaborate generously in all parish activities and apostolic works. He noted that the success of parish ministry depends not only on the priest but also on the active involvement and support of the people of God.

The faithful of St Michael Church warmly welcomed Fr. Vincent Xalxo and expressed their joy and hope for his ministry in the parish. The celebration became an occasion of renewed faith and commitment for the community as prayers were offered for the new Parish Priest, asking God to bless him with wisdom, strength, and pastoral charity in his mission.
