Kollongamukh village emerged as the deserving champion of the Inter-Village Marian Quiz Competition held at Mary Help of Christians Church, Satgaon, on Sunday, 28 June 2026. The competition, organised to foster greater knowledge and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, witnessed enthusiastic participation from villages across the parish.
Bhellapara village secured the second position with 116 points, while Jalpara B finished third securing 96. Wakanta A village was given the consolation prize. Evarush Sangma of Kollongamukh was declared “Quizard 2026” for his outstanding individual performance throughout the contest.
The winning teams received cash prizes, trophies and individual merit certificates. Four teams advanced to the grand finale after successfully emerging from the preliminary qualifying rounds.
The most exciting segments of the competition were undoubtedly the Buzzer Round and the Lifeline Round. The Buzzer Round saw contestants racing to ring the illuminated buzzer on their table before thier rivals, while the Lifeline Round added a unique twist as participants sought assistance from their “rescuers” outside the venue via phone calls. These rounds kept both the participants and the audience fully engaged until the very end.
The programme began with a brief inaugural ceremony that included the lighting of candles before the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the proclamation of the Word of God and an explanation of the rules of the competition.
Welcoming the participants, Rev. Fr. Albert Thyrniang, Parish Priest of Satgaon, expressed his joy at the moderate turnout. He explained that although the competition had originally been scheduled for the month of May, it had to be postponed due to unavoidable circumstances. “It is never too late to honour our Blessed Mother,” he remarked.
Quoting St. Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort, who said, “The more one knows Mary, the more one loves her; the more one loves her, the more perfectly one belongs to Jesus Christ,” Fr. Thyrniang expressed the hope that both the contestants and the audience would leave the competition with a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
He also thanked the organisers for their generous efforts in successfully conducting the event and wished all the participants success. While acknowledging the value of singing and dance competitions, he encouraged young people to participate more actively in intellectually enriching activities such as quizzes, speeches and debates, which not only develop confidence but also broaden one’s knowledge.
The Marian Quiz Competition formed part of the parish’s efforts to promote Marian devotion through learning, fellowship and healthy competition among the faithful, especially the younger generations.
